New Phase of House in Maida Vale, London

Having commissioned me over a period of several years to design a number of rooms within this large, majestic home, my clients were suddenly faced with a terrible damp problem throughout their basement which all needed all the walls to be stripped back to brickwork and be completely re-tanked. This created the opportunity to re-think the use of the basement. Originally there were 2 guest bedrooms with one un-modernised ensuite shower room and a bathroom located off a corridor accessed by the other bedroom plus a large storage area too. My clients are very serious about fitness, so it was an easy decision to retain one guest bedroom and convert the other one into a ‘state of the art’ home gym. We then removed the corridor wall and the dividing partition between the 2 bathrooms to create a wonderfully large shower room accessed from both the gym and the guest bedroom. My client then fell in love with some Moroccan tiles for the shower room, which were suitable for both the walls and floor. The size of these tiles then created the module for the final layout to avoid minimal tile cuts.
