House in Connecticut, USA
Category: Modern | Private Residences
I worked on this job in Connecticut, USA remotely. My clients had bought a beautiful painted timber clad house which they loved in its entirety apart from 2 very tired bathrooms accessed from the first-floor landing. Both bathrooms were very narrow, but once I had drawn up the survey (following instructions from me on how to survey) I discovered that the wall between the 2 bathrooms to house the pipework was 40 centimetres (16 inches) thick and far wider than needed. Consequently, I was able to enlarge both bathrooms by enough to ensure that they were both more useable. The original shower room was next to the guest bedroom, so we shifted the doorway from the landing to inside the bedroom to provide its own ensuite shower room. This in turn created enough space to install a wonderfully wide vanity unit where the original doorway had been to include very much needed storage. Then in keeping with the style of the house my clients selected a mixture of painted panelling and clean white metro tiles for the walls which was contrasted with beautifully modern black brassware.
